Greetings Agvisors,

Friendly reminders on the upcoming deadline to file a GRO for 16 week courses and for the Second Start policy.

Below is also a business guide on how to pull the list of students that are repeating a course this term and have not filed for the GRO. Roxie provided a sample template to reach out to students. When you run the list make sure you verify if the students in your major do have less than 60 earned UA units and have not already used GRO in 3 courses or 10 units as of now.

As a reference, I had formerly sent an email on the second start report list indicating there had been a glitch but was also immediately fixed.

Keep me posted if you have any questions. Thanks!

Best,
Nancy

February 6th Deadline for GRO and Second Start Filing

February 6 is the last day to file for GRO for the traditional 16-week semester and the last day to register for Second Start (SS). These two policies are easily and often missed when it comes to registering by the deadline which means this is an area where advisors can make a real difference by calling extra attention to these two important filing processes.

SECOND START
As a review, the Second Start<http://catalog.arizona.edu/policy/second-start-readmission-policy> (SS) policy is available to re-admitted students who have not been enrolled at the UA for the past three calendar years. For re-admits this spring, the last UA enrollment could not be past fall 2014. According to the Second Start report (Advisor Dashboard in UAnalytics) there are 162 students eligible based on their absence. The majority (82%) have returned to a new major with an average GPA 1.84.

I have a report that shows as of today (1/18) 52 of the 162 students eligible have registered for SS. The Registrar’s office will continue to accept SS registration forms<http://advising.arizona.edu/sites/default/files/Second%20Start%20Form_1.pdf> until the same deadline for filing for GRO – in this case, February 6. There is a positive service indicator showing SS registration.

SS is such a beneficial policy for students who are ready to return and focus on their studies. I urge you to review your returning students’ records and determine if SS is a good fit. If it is, please reach out to help them register by the February 6th deadline.

GRO
Be an advising hero and remind students of the short window during which they can register for GRO. A considerable number of students continue to assume the GRO repeat is automatic. The Dates and Deadlines for Classes with Non-Standard Start Dates is found here: http://registrar.arizona.edu/dates-and-deadlines/non-standard-start-dates
The Office of the Registrar sends the following auto-message to students enrolled in a repeat course that is eligible for GRO. This message is sent to students according to the deadlines for non-standard-start-dates.
Our records show you are repeating a course this ____________ which is eligible for the Grade Replacement Opportunity (GRO). If you plan to replace the original grade with the grade you will receive this _______________ using GRO, then you must complete the GRO request in UAccess Student by midnight ___________, 2018. For more details: http://www.registrar.arizona.edu/academics/grade-replacement-opportunity-gro#steps

Please call me if you have questions regarding SS or GRO. 626-7988 or catts at email.arizona<mailto:catts at email.arizona>. Your feedback is critical and appreciated.
