[Agvisors] Spring Aid Recalculation Dates and change to SAP Appeal Form

Dear UA Colleagues,

This Spring 2017, the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA) will continue the Recalculating Awarding Policy for undergraduate students first implemented this past fall.  The Spring recalculation dates are: 1/3/17, 1/26/17, and 3/14/17.  Attached is a flyer that shows which recalculation dates undergraduate students may be subject to depending on their course enrollment.

OSFA has also implemented a change to the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Appeal Form. On the prior version of the SAP Appeal Form, Academic Advisors were requested to create a two term Academic Plan. We have found that while most students follow the Academic Plan for the first (current) term, they frequently want to change or forget which classes were required for their second term of the appeal. This causes unnecessary aid delays for students who are otherwise making progress toward their degree.

Starting with the Spring 2017 term, the SAP Appeal Form only requests an Academic Plan for one (usually the current) term. Students still “not meeting” SAP standards after making a one term Academic Plan will now have the opportunity to meet with an academic advisor again to make sure they are on track towards graduation and to update their plan if needed. If the student “meets” SAP standards after the term in which they completed the SAP Appeal Form, they will not be required to submit another form (unless they subsequently fail to meet SAP standards in a future term). We believe that reviewing a student’s SAP status every semester will be a more realistic approach to supporting student success.
