Subject: [UPAC] Critical Languages Programs Courses Satisfy 2nd Language Requirement
Dear Colleagues,
It is often that our students get confused about Critical Languages Program department and what we do. We thought it would be of help to introduce our department to all of you for future reference and our collaboration with your department.
Critical Languages Program is a department that offers less commonly taught languages to all students. Our credit barring courses satisfy second language requirement, and are listed in catalog under Critical Language (CRL). We offer languages like Korean, Polish, Norwegian, Cantonese, Modern Greek, Scots-Gaelic, Swahili, Swedish, Tagalog, Chechen, Vietnamese, Thai, Ukrainian, Kurdish and Hindi.
We try our best to accommodate and introduce any languages students desire to learn. For instance, we just implemented Dutch. We hope to not only maintain diverse language opportunities for U of A's students but to shed light on a rare opportunity of studying languages that otherwise would be neglected.
Advisers often refer students to our department for placement and proficiency exams. However, Linguistics Department is the correct department for such exams.
For more details we can always be reached via our contact information:
