I was getting a lot of questions from students about the renewal criteria for the Silver and Sage awards that were given last fall.  Since the requirements for renewal are not listed on the OSFA website, please read below for info that students received on how to make sure their award renews for upcoming semesters.

Hi Kristen,

Silver and Sage was awarded to students who our office identified as most in need of and most likely to benefit from these limited additional funds. Students were selected based upon their High school performance metrics, placement test results, need levels, and the other gift aid they were already receiving.


Below is the email that we sent to students who received the award. It contains the terms and conditions in order to have the award renewed next year. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Dear [student],

Congratulations! The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid has selected you as a recipient of the Silver & Sage Award. As a deserving Wildcat, this award is designed to assist you with the cost of a 4-year degree plan at the University of Arizona.

If you currently have a balance on your bursar account that prevents you from registering for Spring 2017, the Silver & Sage Award will be applied toward your current balance. If you do not have a tuition balance, the Silver & Sage Award will be released with your Spring 2017 financial aid package.

You will be eligible for the Silver & Sage Award for four academic years provided you meet the renewal criteria listed below. Your federal direct loans may have been reduced due to the addition of this award. See your UAccess Student Center for updates.

We are committed to the success of all Wildcat students and we are excited to offer you the Silver & Sage Award as an investment in your UA education!

Silver & Sage Award Terms and Conditions

The Silver & Sage Award was given to a select group of eligible students to assist them with the cost of a 4-year degree plan at the University of Arizona.

Renewable for 8 total semesters, beginning Fall 2016 based upon the renewal criteria below:
-Complete Fall 2016 courses
-Enroll in a minimum of 12 UA credits for each consecutive fall and spring semester
-Maintain a minimum 2.00 cumulative UA GPA
-Complete your FAFSA every year by March 1st
-Meet minimum Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) guidelines, available https://financialaid.arizona.edu/managing-my-aid/satisfactory-academic-progress-sap-policy.
-Not applicable for use in the summer semester or with any study abroad programs.

Happy Monday, I hope you had a great weekend!  I was wondering if you could give me a little information on the Silver and Sage award that many freshmen were awarded this year.  I am currently teaching a success course for freshman and I have had many questions from students about the award; everything from why they were awarded it to how they can meet renewal criteria to get the award next year.  I have looked on the OSFA website to try and find additional information about the award but have been unsuccessful.  Are you able to provide any information about the specifics of the award that I can pass on to students and other advisors in my college?
