Greetings Region 10!

The recent conference in Las Vegas was absolutely fantastic! It was fabulous to see all of you at the Region 10 meeting. While what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, I will never forget our impromptu karaoke sessions. I am writing to you all today to recap some of the bigger announcements from our meeting.

Research Symposium
The next research Symposium will take place in Manhattan, Kansas from February 28-29th, 2016. Region 10 is offering two Research Symposium Travel Grants worth $500. To apply, send a two page essay detailing what you would hope to learn by attending this conference and, in addition, a budget of planned expenses for your trip to Joey Davis at joseph.w.davis at asu.edu<mailto:joseph.w.davis at asu.edu>. Applications will be open from November 1st through January 1st.

Regional Advising Awards
In an effort to increase value to our regional membership, Region 10 is now offering four new awards in the following areas:
·         Excellence in Advising: New Advising Professional
·         Excellence in Advising: Primary Role
·         Excellence in Advising: Faculty Advisor
·         Excellence in Advising: Advising Administrator
Applications are due on November 1st.

Next Region Conference
Our next regional conference will be in Santa Fe, NM from May 23-25th.  Our co-chairs for this conference are Pier Quintana and Sarah Kieltyka. If you are interested in serving on the conference committee, please e-mail Pier at pier.quintana at sfcc.edu<mailto:pier.quintana at sfcc.edu>.
Regional Travel Scholarships will open January 1st and will close on April 1st. More information will be announced as the dates get closer.

Mentoring Program
We had quite a few individuals express interest in participating in our regional mentoring program at the annual conference. Our mentoring program pairs experienced and new advisors together to develop a fantastic and supportive relationship. Mentors typically have three or more years of advising experience with mentees being under three years.
To apply, send Joey Davis (joseph.w.davis at asu.edu<mailto:joseph.w.davis at asu.edu>) a two page essay regarding what you are looking for in a mentor or mentee and what you would have to offer as a mentor or mentee to your matched partner. Applications are due by November 15th.

Region Chair Nominations
Region chairs serve two year terms in office. We've already begun the process of finding the next Region 10 chair to begin their term in October of 2016. Nominations are due on October 30th, 2015. The online submission form can be found here:

New Operating Principles
In the coming week, a second e-mail will be sent with information to view our new Regional Operating Principles. Essentially, this is how we are structuring the region and have attempted to gain some consistency across the regions. The regional membership will be voting to approve these principles before they can take effect.  Please be on the lookout for this in the coming weeks.
