Subject: [sfcs_all] Student Retail Popup Stores in Downtown Tucson - Next Week
Good afternoon, all!
As some of you know, this academic year, 27 RCSC students have been hard at work in a very unique retailing entrepreneurship project. Last spring, the students grouped together into nine teams of three students each. When the fall semester started, each team began work on developing a business plan for opening a retail venture specifically for downtown Tucson. Through tours of downtown, visiting with existing merchants and conducting surveys throughout the Tucson area about interests in downtown, the teams put together nine great ideas and plans. They then pitched their ideas - a la Shark Tank - to five individuals including local investors and entrepreneurs. From those original nine, three teams were selected to continue the process as reconstituted teams of nine.
Starting on Sunday, March 29 and continuing to Saturday, April 4th, these three student-run retailers will open and manage real-world, popup stores in downtown. All the net proceeds from the sales will go for student scholarships. Through the active support of the Downtown Tucson Partnership, we were able to secure the old Buffalo Exchange space at 250 E. Congress. The three companies will share this space during the full week. Their store hours are 10am to 5pm each day. Sunday, March 29th, will be opening day launch events.
The three companies are:
* ReWear - repurposed clothing - take your old clothes and turn them into something new with silk screen/stenciling, added fabric, and other bedazzled accessories.
* Beard Avenue - all things beard - a variety of products to help take care of one's beard
* Dwelling - a highly curated product offering of local Tucson and regional artisans including clothing and housewares.
If you can make it down to see their stores, I'm sure they would love the support. If you do go, please take a photo or two and share with your network and encourage others to visit the stores too.
Thanks,
Scott
