The Border Latino & American Indian Summer Exposure to Research (BLAISER) is a new ten week program at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson (COM-T) designed to help students become empowered and competitive Medical School, Health Professions and Graduate School applicants.  This opportunity is for undergraduates majoring in the biomedical fields to learn about the bench-to-bedside research process and prepare for a translational career in biomedical research or academic medicine. The 2015 Program will be held from June 7 to August 12, 2015.

Program Highlights

  *   Mentorship from a UA biomedical researcher or medical scientist
  *   Gain hands-on experience conducting research
  *   Learn about minority health disparities
  *   Empower your GRE and MCAT skills
  *   Meet minority professors and students working in translational research
  *   Create and present a research poster
  *   Obtain additional clinical and community health mentoring the following academic year
  *   Experience the opportunity to be a part of a top cohort of students who have similar goals
Student Eligibility

  *   Current Junior status or beyond
  *   Cumulative 3.25 GPA
  *   Latinos, Native Americans and African Americans who have faced socioeconomic disadvantages, are first generation college attendees, grew up in either a rural or US/Mexico border region, OR are enrolled members in federally recognized American Indian tribes
  *   Currently majoring in: biology, chemistry, physiology, microbiology, engineering, computer sciences and similar fields
Program Benefits

  *   $4000 stipend
  *   On campus residence for non-UA students
  *   Six units upper division graded undergraduate research
