Subject: [UPAC] Advising on the Mall

Dear UPAC members,
                There are some recent updates to the Advising on the Mall project for this spring we would like to inform you of.  First off, thank you to all of you who have shown interest in being a part of the Advising on the Mall experience.  The unfortunate reality is that the interest has outgrown the resources available.  This being the case, Advising on the Mall will only be available for college advising offices to send representatives at this time.  This is not to say that it will not grow above and beyond this in the future, but at this point it needs to be limited to advising only.  For those advising offices that are still interested in participating please do not hesitate to contact me at ckinney23 at email.arizona.edu<mailto:ckinney23 at email.arizona.edu>.
For this spring the message we are going to present through Advising on the Mall is "get prepared".  Our goal will be to encourage students to begin preparing for priority registration before the dates arrive vs. while in an advising appointment.  It will hopefully begin to shift the current campus culture that Priority Registration = Priority Advising to a more proactive and self-authored approach to class registration.  The overall purpose will be to promote advising in general, and not to provide actual advising under the tent.  It is an intrusive advising approach and will hopefully create awareness of how to pick courses, or where to go to get help.
We will have 4 tablets available at the tent so we can provide students quick access to some information, but we will not be using UAccess to provide specific student information.  There will also not be a sit down table, but 4 standing cocktail tables to create a more mobile and inviting setting.  We know that there may not be a ton of students coming to us, but we will hopefully be going to students too, asking them how they are feeling about picking their classes, if they are comfortable finding them, where to go if they have questions, etc.
Again, we apologize to those of you who were interested in being included in this event but are unable to attend at this point, but we hope that as this grows it will open the doors for further inclusion of other offices and departments.
