1 Unit Course Opportunity! Learn about Masculinity while giving back to the Community! Course begins Wednesday September 10^th and runs through the end of the semester! No late registration fee for the course. Enroll today!

Course: Masculinity and its Intersections
Day/Time: Wednesdays from 8:00-8:50am
The course is offered through College of Education’s Center for the Study of Higher Education

This course provides a broad-based introduction to masculinity, its social constructions, and how it intersects with race, poverty, sexual orientation and other identities. Students will explore current theoretical ideas and debates about masculinity formation through weekly readings and discussions, as well as have the opportunity to engage with male youth in an outreach initiative entitled Man Up and go to College! That seeks to increase the number of local young men that consider college as a future pathway.

Current research points towards lower numbers of minority and low-income males enrolling into colleges and universities, so Man Up seeks to counter that by sending college student panels into local high schools and through a masculinity speaker series and high school conference. Earn 1 unit, explore masculinity and give back to the community!

Students interested in enrolling should send an email to Graduate Assistant Bryant Valencia at:bryantv at email.arizona.edu (mailto:bryantv at email.arizona.edu)

Need volunteers – no prior experience required

Volunteering with United Way’s VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program is a great opportunity to give back to the community while gaining valuable skills! Many volunteer positions are available, such as greeter, interview specialist, tax preparer, and interpreter.

The VITA program offers free tax preparation to low- and mid-income families, seniors, and individuals. We also offer a free tax preparation for University of Arizona students and employees at VITA sites and viawww.myfreetaxes.com/wildcats (powered by H&R Block).

Highlights of the 2014 VITA season include:

·457 total VITA volunteers
·14,438 tax returns completed across Arizona
·$21.7 million in refunds and credits returned to taxpayers
·$10.5 million in Earned Income Tax Credit generated, which is the most significant factor in lifting children out of poverty (Brookings Institute)

No prior experience is needed for any volunteer position and free tax preparation training and IRS certification is provided to those volunteering as tax preparers. This is a great opportunity to gain actual field experience while also giving back to the community. We need your help to put hard-earned money back into the pockets of those who need it most!

If would like to submit an abstract, scholarships are available. Deadline for abstract submission is September 15.
This summer, the University of Arizona changed the timeline and process from dropping/withdrawing from a class. PLEASE read the information below!

If you want to still add a class on UACCESS, you have until Tuesday, September 2! After that, you will need the instructor’s signature on the Change of Schedule form to ADD.

IMPORTANT CHANGES FOR DROPPING OR WITHDRAWING
Changes to the university’s dropping and withdrawing policies for undergraduate students were approved at the May 5th Faculty Senate meeting and become effective in Fall 2014. There are four main changes:
1. Adjusted Deadlines
2. New 18 Unit Cap on W Grades
3. Complete Withdrawal Changes
4. Late Drop Fee Timeframe

1. Adjusted Deadlines

Below are the basics for a fall or spring 16 week semester. Shorter sessions will follow the same proportional deadlines. See the Dates and Deadlines Calendar for specific dates. I want to:
New Policy
Drop a class without receiving a grade Week 1 – 2
(or prior to the start of the term)
Impacts:
· You have two weeks to make a decision about dropping a class if you don’t want a W grade.

Drop a single class after the drop deadline and receive a W grade Week 3 – 10
Impacts:
· You have two additional weeks (past the previous deadline) to drop with a W grade.
· You can drop in UAccess. No paper form needed.
· No instructor permissionrequired.
· Only W grades will be awarded. E grades are no longer an option.
· $25 late drop fee per class.

2. New 18 Unit Cap on W Grades
There is now an 18 unit cap on the number of units for which a student may receive a W grade. Your previous W grades will not be counted. Only W grades earned in Fall 2014 or later will be counted.
If you ever meet or exceed 18 units of W coursework, you will not be allowed to drop with a W grade in any future classes. You will need to accept the grade earned in the class.

3. Complete Withdrawal Changes
The process remains the same. You submit the Complete Withdrawal form, online. You may still drop (with a W grade) your classes in UAccess through the 10th week, however UAccess will prevent you from dropping all of your classes and will direct you to the online Complete Withdrawal form to finish the process.
All complete withdrawal grades will be noted on the transcript as WC grades. WP and WF grades will not be used.

4. Late Drop Fee Timeframe
The per class $25 late drop fee will be in effect starting week 2 through week 10.

GRADE REPLACEMENT OPPORTUNITY
A GRO tab has been added to UAccess for undergraduate students only. Students who wish to file for a GRO will submit a GRO request during GRO filing period for each eligible course. For more information, please refer to the website below.
