This course provides a broad-based introduction to masculinity, its social constructions, and how it intersects with race, poverty, sexual orientation and other identities. Students will explore current theoretical ideas and debates about masculinity formation through weekly readings and discussions, as well as have the opportunity to engage with male youth in an outreach initiative entitled Man Up and go to College! That seeks to increase the number of local young men that consider college as a future pathway.<br>
<br>
Current research points towards lower numbers of minority and low-income males enrolling into colleges and universities, so Man Up seeks to counter that by sending college student panels into local high schools and through a masculinity speaker series and high school conference. Earn 1 unit, explore masculinity and give back to the community!<br>

The THINK TANK serves as the central academic support center on our campus. It is our goal to assist students in becoming independent learners. The Academic Skills Tutoring program was developed to help students expand their study skills and organizational strategies to become more academically successful. As students themselves, academic skills tutors serve as role models for the campus with their ability to model the strategies and techniques that they teach other students about. This program works on a drop-in and appointment basis and in open to all students on campus.<br>

<strong><u>Responsibilities:</u></strong><br>

<li><span style="font-size:12px"><span style="font-family:tahoma,verdana,segoe,sans-serif">Build and maintain rapport with incoming students on a drop-in or appointment based basis providing guidance and support to assist in college transition and improvement of study skills/habits.</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size:12px"><span style="font-family:tahoma,verdana,segoe,sans-serif">Discuss skills such as college-level time management, study strategies, successfully maneuvering the university environment and related topics.</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size:12px"><span style="font-family:tahoma,verdana,segoe,sans-serif">Promote The THINK TANK unit and services to students through video presentations, visits to campus organizations and classrooms as well as one-on-one student interaction.</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size:12px"><span style="font-family:tahoma,verdana,segoe,sans-serif">Present academic skill workshops for campus community. </span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size:12px"><span style="font-family:tahoma,verdana,segoe,sans-serif">Create materials such as bulletin boards, handouts, and/or other products to promote student academic success; distribute information to the UA community.</span></span></li>

If you are not in your third year at The University of Arizona or beyond, then you would not be in the 2016 application cycle. Through this internship, students have the opportunity to experience hospital, specialty, and group practice settings, develop mentoring relationships with health care professionals, explore career options, attend lectures to learn about important health care issues and prepare for the application to medical programs.<br>
