NOTE:  Students must present their Change of Schedule forms in person unless they are fully online students. Students with extenuating circumstances that prevent them from presenting their forms in person may contact 520-621-3113 (tel:520-621-3113)  for an exception. Fully online students may scan/email their forms to REG-Reghelp at email.arizona.edu (mailto:REG-Reghelp at email.arizona.edu) and provide necessary instructor and dean permissions by email.
Are you interested in learning more about the food industry? Or maybe planning on having a career in a related field? Apply today for the AFA Food Institute held in Chicago, Ill, February 8-10. AFA will be selecting up to 75 passionate, talented and committed students who are future leaders in the industry to take part in the first ever Food Institute. Applications are due on December 1^st and can be found at www.agfuture.org/afafood.

You may be wondering why you should attend the AFA Food Institute?

1. Networking: At the AFA Food Institute you will network with other highly talented students interested in the food industry from across the nation. Not only that, but you will also get to interact with recognized leader in the food industry. From year to year, you will continue to work with these individuals.
2. Industry Tours: During the institute, one day will be committed to you learning the scope of careers within the food industry. This means you will interact with professionals all across the sector. From processing and marketing to production and safety and regulation you will see a broad scope!
3. Soft Skill development: While networking is important, so are the skills to do the job. At the AFA Food Institute, they will take time to help train you in just a few of the important soft skills you’ll use as a professional in the industry.
4. The AFA High: There is no way you can leave the Institute without being excited about agriculture and the future. AFA helps you define your future goals and hone your skills. When you go back to campus, you will be able to make more meaning of why you are on campus – whether you are in class or in a club meeting.


If you would like to attend the AFA Food Institute, you should apply through the online application. AFA’s industry partners will cover your registration, lodging and meals during the Institute. The only thing you will have to cover is your travel, but talk to me about carpooling or resources from our campus. Learn more and apply at www.agfuture.org/afafood. The Beckman Scholarship Program, funded by the Beckman Foundation, is designed to “help stimulate, encourage and support research activities by exceptionally talented undergraduate students at our nation’s universities and colleges; young people who ultimately will become prominent leaders in their scientific and professional pursuits.” (http://arizona.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d02ce653ff78467d92a1ca720&id=fc181f82a1&e=af2923c469)

The Beckman Scholarship at the University of Arizona provides funding for students of any major to conduct in-depth research with one of 15 stellar research mentors in UA’s College of Science (http://arizona.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d02ce653ff78467d92a1ca720&id=49627a4527&e=af2923c469 beckman/mentors/ (http://arizona.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d02ce653ff78467d92a1ca720&id=80351adb32&e=af2923c469) ). Students who are accepted to the program identify a mentor from this list, and work with him or her to develop a research project of interest. They will spend Summer 2015, the 2015-2016 academic year, and Summer 2016 working in the mentor’s lab on this project and engaging in professional development activities, such as meeting with eminent scientists from around the world, attending the annual Beckman Symposium, and leading fellow undergraduates in small group discussions. The scholarship is a prestigious one, providing a total student stipend of $18,200 plus $2,800 for research supplies and travel over the course of this 15-month research experience.

Want to be involved in sustainability on campus?

ASUA's Students for Sustainability internship is a leadership program that promotes sustainability on campus. Interns can be involved in projects such as our community garden, planning UA Earth Day, or helping make athletic events greener. The Center for Middle Eastern Studies offers a Certificate in Middle Eastern Studies to UA undergraduate students.

* Requires completion of 18 credit hours from a list of over 500 eligible courses

* 9 credits must be non-language courses

* Minimum GPA of 2.5 (for the eligible courses only)

* Useful for students in any major (Students with a major or minor in Middle Eastern & North African Studies are not eligible)

To apply for a certificate, students need to fill out and submit the attached application (also available on the website below) in their final semester or after graduation.
