Hello everyone, hope you are all doing well. As you may have heard there
are very limited spaces left in Math 100AX for tomorrow's orientation.
After yesterday's program there are less than 20 seats available and as of
now there are approximately 60 students eligible for the program. Math has
graciously agreed to expand their available seats by 28 (giving us 48 seats
total) to accommodate. As you know, there may be more than the 60 we know of
today as some of this group will test today or tonight.
In order to ensure that Math 100AX enrollment does increase any further, the
S4S eligible students who are CLAS majors and attending orientation on
Thursday will be offered the Wildcat Academy program. This will provide a
structured support program and prepare the students to pursue math in the
spring.
As referenced above, there will likely be some late testers today and
tonight that may be eligible for S4S who are admitted to other colleges.
Unfortunately, we will not have space to accommodate these students at this
time. We plan to still share the names of the students with each college
coordinator so you may advise them appropriately based on their math skills.
We know that a segment S4S students will retest over the coming weeks before
classes start, some will change majors, and other will choose not to attend
UA so we anticipate the total S4S cohort will settle in somewhere under 600
total.
Our plan will include offering sections of SAS100AX in the spring so we can
offer this S4S group of students who don't get the program for fall ready to
begin their math sequence at the 7th week of the spring 2015 term.
Our next decision will be how best to handle the S4S eligible students who
are slated to attend our last two August orientations in the near future, we
will get a group together to discuss and make a decision in next week or so.
We will update you as soon as a plan is in place.
Thanks everyone for working together to help make these opportunities
available for our incoming students and let me know if you have any
questions, Jeff.
