Department Heads, School Directors and Agvisors:
As the college continues to work on strategic initiatives, Career and
Academic Services would like to remind all that if you have any suggestions
on what our unit can do to enhance the quality of advising and retention
services to assist the departments/schools please send them to
nancyr at cals.arizona.edu, discuss in person at Forbes Room 211 or via phone
at 621-3611.
As Associate Dean Winzerling addresses, we highly value advising in our
college and would like to maintain that status by continuing to offer
quality services to our students. We sincerely appreciate the unique
collaboration we have with the academic advisors (Agvisors) that attend the
monthly meetings.
Thanks for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Nancy

Subject: [Agvisors] SENT ON BEHALF OF JOY WINZERLING - Student Advising
President Hart has indicated that student advising is an important component
in serving our students as we move forward with the Enterprise plan. Dean
Burgess also has expressed that he thinks student advising extremely
important and a priority for CALS. Since we have several new interim Unit
Heads, I thought it might be helpful for you to have the following
information.
We greatly value our students and advisors in CALS. The general student to
advisor ratio for the university is 400:1. Our goal as a College is to stay
at or below this ratio. As you plan how you will best meet your unit's needs
please consider student advising in your plans. At this time, we have two
full time advisors within CAS who advise students, conduct all of our new
student orientations, deal with issues of student retention, work one-on-one
with our students who are on academic probation, assist transfer students
and support our unit advisors. Our College advisors meet monthly with the
unit advisors during the academic year to keep them informed on University
and College policies and practices. The college has been successful in
having representation from all CALS units at the advisor monthly meetings,
and we would like to maintain this great collaboration. Herewith is a
listing of the designated advisors for our programs. If you make changes in
your units with regards to your advisor, then please let our office know who
will participate in the monthly advisor meetings and to whom we can refer
interested students. Thank you for all your efforts on behalf of our
students and advisors.
Joy
