Beginning July 16 the THINK TANK will open its doors at Bear Down Gym to
continue its legacy of delivering world-class tutoring and academic support
to the UA community.
With over 100,000 visits in just three years, the opportunity and timing for
THINK TANK's move along with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the
Center for Exploratory Students (CES) was ideal. The move enables us to
remain in central campus and allow for further increase in use.
Our new Bear Down Gym location will house:
-The Writing Center
-Separate rooms for lower division and upper division math tutoring
-Dedicated space for individualized tutoring appointments
-Professional Learning Specialists
-Academic Skills Tutoring
-Study Skills Workshops
Another critical academic support service operating out of Bear Down Gym is
Supplemental Instruction (SI). SI provides weekly, group-based study
sessions for students in several key courses. Data for 2011-12 show that
students who participate in SI have statistically significant higher course
grades and lower rates of DEW grades than those who do not participate.
In addition, THINK TANK is an active partner with the Center for Exploratory
Students. We hope our new proximity will allow for an enhanced student
referral process, especially for students in academic recovery programs.
Please note that during the week of July 9-13 summer tutoring will take
place in the Tubac Room (SUMC, 4th Floor).
Our Rec Center and Park Student Union locations will not be affected by this
move.
