Dear Student:
Please note that you are signed up for CALS 195A this Spring 2012 semester.
The class is on your UAccess student schedule. It is a one unit class that
will calculate into your grade point average so make sure you are proactive
and show up to class. You have been notified of this class multiple times.
Below are the emails you have formerly been sent.
If you have any questions or concerns contact Kyle Sharp or myself at
520-621-3616 or in person at Forbes 211.
Sincerely,
Nancy

*YOU MUST RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL AFTER YOU READ IT*
January 5, 2012
Dear Student,
Please be advised that after the Fall 2011 semester, your cumulative grade
point average (GPA) is below a 2.0; therefore, you have been placed on
academic probation. Failure to reduce your B deficit after Spring 2012
could result in a disqualification from the College and/or the University.
The B deficit is how many units of B you need to raise your cumulative GPA
to a 2.0.
Since this is your first time on probation, you are required to complete the
CALS 195a (1 unit) class that you will be registered for this Spring 2012
semester. Refer to your UAccess Student account to verify your updated
schedule by Tuesday January 10. The class on your schedule will be CALS
195A section 1 or 3. If you have a class schedule conflict but are willing
to adjust it to enroll in the class please send an email to
<mailto:nancyr at ag.arizona.edu> nancyr at ag.arizona.edu, stop by Forbes Room
211 or call (520) 621-3616. Students that have schedule conflicts will be
required to attend a workshop. The committee highly recommends the class,
so we encourage you to consider a schedule change if you have a schedule
conflict.
You will also be placed with an advising hold on your UAccess Student
account which will prevent you from making schedule changes. The advising
hold will be removed once you confirm with me via email at
<mailto:nancyr at ag.arizona.edu> nancyr at ag.arizona.edu acknowledging your
enrollment in the class and receipt of this email. Failure to complete the
CALS 195a class (or workshop) will prevent you from registering for Summer
and/or Fall 2012 terms.
Section 1 of CALS 195a class will meet on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:45pm at the
Biological Sciences West Building Room 237. Section 3 will meet on Tuesdays
from 2:00-3:15 (Physics and Atmospheric Sciences Room 224). The course
description is below:
Cultivating Academic Learning Strategies (1 unit)
Description: This course is designed to provide students with the
opportunity to cultivate the skills, values and attitudes necessary to
become confident and successful students. It will also introduce students to
university and college procedures and assist in identifying their
educational goals. Skills taught in this class are time management,
motivation, listening, note-taking, exam preparation and use of campus
resources and advising.
Your current situation is reparable as long as you seek assistance from
campus resources. I assure you that the advisors and tutors here are wholly
committed to your academic success. The CALS 195a class should assist you
as well, so that you may successfully complete your degree program.
Sincerely on behalf of the Academic Standards Committee,
Nancy Rodriguez-Lorta, M.Ed.
