TECH TIP OF THE WEEK:

Resizing or cropping photographs for websites, PowerPoint presentations,
announcements and flyers, etc., is important for several reasons. However,
while Adobe Photoshop is the "gold standard" of photo editing programs, not
everyone has it, and it can be intimidating to use. A good alternative for
simple editing is Microsoft Office Picture Manager. This is included with
the full version of Office that is available through the UA. It can be
found through the Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office 2010 Tools groups in
your programs menu.

Picture Manager has easy to use tools for cropping (trimming) and resizing
(reducing the file size) photo images. There are also tools for
brightness/contrast, changing the color value, rotating/flipping, and red
eye removal. For the low-to-medium quality images required for the usages
previously mentioned, these are really all the tools you need.

Remember, when editing a photo, work from a duplicate copy, not the
original. Keep the original as is for archival and future uses.
