Tuesday Morning Notes The Wednesday Edition
July 5, 2011
MESSAGE FROM THE INTERIM DIRECTOR:
As you have heard, I have been asked to step into the role of Interim
Director of Extension at the University of Arizona. It is an honor to be
asked to take on this role and I look forward to these new challenges and
opportunities. As I embark on this interim appointment, I am reminded of
the leadership that Jim Christenson has provided for over 22 years to UA
Cooperative Extension. Thanks for all you have done, Jim, and best wishes
in retirement. Jim has left big shoes to fill, but with the support of Ed,
Linda, our staff, and all of you, I know we are in capable hands and I am
excited by the challenge and opportunities of the future.
I intend to fill this role to the very best of my abilities and will not be
a simple caretaker. Along with the Extension administrative team and
staff, we intend to continue moving ahead along the lines that we have
outlined in our strategic plan and with the signature program initiatives we
have identified. We will also rely on all of you to help steer this ship on
a steady course of progress and not lose momentum. I am optimistic about our
future and excited about the months ahead. This is a great time to be a
part of the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences and the University of
Arizona. I look forward to your support, help and advice as we move forward
with confidence, commitment and clarity.
CONDOLENCES:
Dr. Norm Oebker, former Cooperative Extension Vegetable Crops Specialist in
the Department of Plant Sciences, passed away June 12 at the age of 84. The
family arranged for two memorial services due to scheduling conflicts with
family members. The first took place on Sunday, June 26. A second service
will be on Sunday, July 16 at 3:00pm at the Fellowship Bible Church, 6700 E.
Broadway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Middle
School/High School program at Fellowship Bible Church and cards may be sent
to his wife, Donna, at P.O. Box 31406, Tucson, Arizona, 85751. The family
would love to see any friends and colleagues at the service.
FOCUS ON PROGRAMS:
Seven hundred family and consumer sciences professionals from across the
country met for their national conference at Wild Horse Pass Resort on the
Gila River Indian Community on June 22-25. The Norton School of Family and
Consumer Sciences and FCS alumni helped sponsor the conference. Thanks to
all Extension faculty and staff who volunteered for tours, registration,
early AM exercise, AZ INFO Booth, AZ Artisan Fair and more.
