*** February 18, 2015, Wednesday, will be an Ag Pesticide Applicator licensing exam preparation review session and offering of the National Pesticide Applicator Core Exam. Golf course spray techs, superintendents, and agricultural crops pesticide applicators who are required to be licensed to apply pesticides by the AZ Dept of Agriculture can take advantage of this opportunity.
Registration details are at: http://turf.arizona.edu/events.htm
*** A new “Turf Tips” describes the "History of Lawns and the Development of Turf" by Dave Kopec, University of Arizona Turf Extension Specialist. The article can be found at: http://turf.arizona.edu/publications.htm
*** A Glyphosate-Resistant Weeds Workshop was held last November 2014 with University of Arizona and UC Davis weed scientists and economist presenting several topics describing the current status of herbicide resistant weeds in Arizona and the U.S. and importantly how to strategically develop weed management programs to avoid future resistance in crops and turf and landscapes. The presentations can be accessed from http://turf.arizona.edu/index.htm
*** “Nozzles and Droplets: What do the colors mean?” by Bill McCloskey, Pedro Andrade-Sanchez, and Lydia Brown, University of Arizona Extension faculty, explains the color coding schemes for selecting proper spray nozzles to deliver the required droplet size for pesticide applications. The bulletin can be accessed from http://turf.arizona.edu/index.htm
*** The AZ Dept of Agriculture requires reporting of certain pesticide applications on “Form 1080”. Filling out the form that is new to golf course and other nonagricultural applicators can be an excellent practice to maintain accurate records for any herbicide, insecticide, fungicide, or other agricultural chemicals. Having detailed data can help support maintaining long-term pesticide availability and not losing old but useful tools. View University of Arizona Extension Entomologist, Peter Ellsworth’s powerpoint presentation “Pesticide Reporting: Why you should care?” that can be accessed from http://turf.arizona.edu/index.htm
*** Mark Wednesday, May 6, 2015, on calendars for the University of Arizona Turfgrass Field Day at the UA Karsten Turf Center in Tucson.
*** Also lookout for an announcement soon for the Annual Spring Turfgrass Seminar in April.
Please freely share these announcements with colleagues, staff, and other interested persons.
