</span></span></span><span style="color:#1F497D">Since we’re using the UAV for film production, it takes us out of the realm of “hobbyist” and into “commercial/photographer”. In the FAA’s eyes, “commercial” and “photographer” are synonymous. It would be interesting
to see if we could fight back on this, being a not-for-profit University.<br>

</span></span></span><span style="color:#1F497D">As I understand it, if we were a hobbyist, we would not need to file a registration, as we could fly legally under 200ft and under 55lbs. (<b>Rick</b>, I think you were going to try to get confirmation from OGC
on this).<br>

</span></span></span><span style="color:#1F497D">Since we’re not considered hobbyist (but a “photographer”), the current plan is to register the UAV as an FAA aircraft. This is the same registration process as registering a plane. CALS’ Dean of Finance and
Administration is going to look this over and see if the owner can be the operator and not a signee of the University.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D">Once this registration goes through, CCT will apply for a COA, listing the FAA # on the COA registration. We’ve already sent in our
<a href="https://www.faa.gov/uas/legislative_programs/section_333/">Section 333</a> for the area we want to film, which required no signature.
