Good morning:

I’m teaching a drone course this Fall in case you want to sign up or let students know.
This is the fourth year I’m teaching it with help from some other RS experts and drone pilots.
Students get to fly drones and acquire their own data sets for a final project!
Cheers, Wim

The University of Arizona resides on the lands and territories of Indigenous peoples that have been here for 13,000 years - the first people tied to these lands and natural resources. Today, Arizona is home to 22 federally recognized sovereign Native Nations, with Tucson being home to the O’odham and the Yaqui.

Thank you so much for your ideas, David! This is super helpful. I reached out to Rahul as well and mentioned that although the workshop does not offer financial support at this time, it's possible that his department has travel grants available for students that want to attend events. Thanks so much for your additional help!

Best,
Brenna

Hi Rahul -

This isn't a UA event, but it is possible that there are funds to support you at the university. But I understand this can be daunting if you've never gone through the process of requesting travel support! So I've cc'd the list in case others have suggestions. And perhaps Brenna knows if the conference offers any student support.

I think it would help to start with a budget - I suspect you could do this for under $750 depending on your lodging and meal choices (flight for $300; standard maximum rates for lodging are $141/day and other expenses are $49 / day. A departmental administrator could help you work this out.

If you have a faculty mentor, I would ask them - they may have funds or know of departmental funds for attending conferences. You could also check the Office of Undergraduate Research: Funding for Research | Undergraduate Research | University of Arizona<https://ur.arizona.edu/content/funding-research>.

Good luck!

- David

Hello!

I hope your summer is going well and that you are able to stay comfortable in the heat.

If you are a student here at the University of Arizona, or know of such a student, please have the look at the message below! There is also a flyer attached to this email.

(beginning of forwarded message)
-------------------------------------------------

Dear University of Arizona Students:

  * Are you interested in how drones are used for natural resources management, emergency response and other applications?

  * Would you like to watch live, outdoor demonstrations of drones and their sensor systems in action?

  * Would you like to explore scientific research with drones, and have a chance to share your own project?

  * Do you want to learn about career opportunities as a remote pilot and drone applications specialist with USGS, NASA, NOAA and more?
If yes, then consider attending this special, free event at the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI) in Albuquerque, NM!

SIPI will host the 6th Federal UxS Workshop<https://www.usgs.gov/centers/national-innovation-center/science/6th-federal-uxs-workshop> from September 10-12, 2024. Special events and programming are planned for students, and faculty and staff are welcome too. Registration and participation are free. See the attached flyer for more information.
