<p class="ydp9f2dfddMsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"">I hope you are all doing well and are settling into the
semester! As you get into your routine for the fall semester, I wanted to provide
some general information about the University of Arizona's Undergraduate Range
Management Exam Team (aka "URME" Team). </span></p>
<p class="ydp9f2dfddMsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"">The "URME" is a student competition hosted by the
Society for Range Management (SRM) and administered every year at the annual
International SRM conference.<span> </span>The week-long
SRM conference will be held February 6-10, 2022 in Albuquerque, NM. <span> </span>The UA URME Team has won 1st Place in this
competition 2 years in a row while competing against ~ 25 college and university
range programs all across the U.S. and Canada!<span>
</span></span></p>
<div class="ydp9f2dfddMsoNormal" dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"">The 2022 Annual conference will be especially exciting
because the Arizona Section of the SRM is serving as co-host long with the folks in the
New Mexico Section of SRM.<span> </span>At this <span><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"">conference</span></span>, there will be
plenty of opportunities to network with students from other range programs
across North America, with rangeland professors, scientists, and specialists from many universities, <span><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"">with managers</span></span> from multiple public and private land management organizations, as well as with ranchers and pastoralists who make a living on
rangelands (the world's largest land type) all across the planet. Perhaps of most interest to students, there will be many potential employers and university representatives at the conference that you will be able to directly talk to about internships, jobs, or graduate school depending on your interests!<br></span></div>
<div class="ydp9f2dfddMsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman""><br></span></div><div class="ydp9f2dfddMsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"">Getting back to the URME -- the purpose of this competitive, challenging exam is to p<span style="color:black">rovide
an opportunity for undergraduate students to demonstrate higher order learning
skills in 6 key areas and to synthesize their knowledge of the art and science
of rangeland management.<span> </span>It is open to
any undergraduate student - all are welcome -- I assure you that there will be plenty of help and support for you as an URME Team member! <span> </span></span>Even if you are graduating in December
2021 you are still eligible to take the URME in February 2022.</span><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";color:black"> Participants who take the URME and score in the
top 10% of participants will have already completed a major step towards qualifying
as a Certified Professional in Rangeland Management (CPRM)! <span> </span>Another benefit is that you are eligible to earn
2 credits if you actively participate in the weekly, 2-hour URME study sessions
(time and day TBD this week) and commit to representing the UA by taking the
URME next February in Albuquerque (travel funds available)! These credits can
be taken either this fall or next spring semester by enrolling in RNR 496B --
Natural Resources Seminar (listed under my name), if you actively participate
in URME as described here. More details will be provided
at our first URME meeting.</span><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman""></span>
