<p class="MsoBodyTextIndent3">Student will be expected to assist with planning field work and logistics, collecting and processing soil, plant and biocrust samples and to enter data into Excel for projects related to grazing, restoration, biocrusts and plant
communities in the Great Basin. Student will also assist with report preparations and development. The work schedule is Full-time and requires several field outings that will require 8-day trips.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">2. <b>Required Expertise/Skills</b><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoBodyTextIndent2" style="margin-left:.5in">BA/BS degree in a science field with coursework related to the position to be filled. Experience in field data collection and laboratory work is required. The recipient must be a licensed driver as operation
of a Government vehicle may be required. Applicants must also be U.S. citizens.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in">Preferred candidate will have familiarity with field collection of plant ecological data and a basic understanding of ecology concepts; the ability to perform data-entry (accurately) using Excel; experience using
a microscope, and familiarity with geographic information systems (GIS), and global positioning systems (GPS). The ideal candidate will also have experience in identifying Great Basin grasses, forbs, and shrubs to species level and the ability to recognize
and separately identify lichens and mosses on soil surface.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">3. <b>Description of Working Conditions</b>:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in"><u>Field work</u> will be performed in eastern California, northern Nevada and southwestern Idaho.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in"><u>Laboratory work</u> will be performed on the University of Nevada campus in Reno, Nevada.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.25in;text-indent:-.25in">4. <b>Compensation</b><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in;text-indent:-.25in"> Compensation is
<b>$19.50</b> per hour. The student is responsible for all transportation costs to and from the principal duty station. USGS will provide transportation from the duty station to any field study sites and return. Meals/cost of food while at field investigation
sites will be provided by the USGS in the same manner as for federal employees in accordance with the U.S. Government travel regulations.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Resume should include: legal name, mailing address, telephone number, email address, date of birth, place of birth, citizenship, education – including description of relevant classes, work or volunteer experience in related field. Other
documentation: Transcript listing courses taken and the student’s overall GPA. Transcript does not have to be the official version. Student must be enrolled at least part-time in college or have graduated within the last 12 months. A written statement
from registrar’s office to identify intent to remain enrolled in the next college term is required.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Special Terms:<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">For all legal purposes, student is regarded as an independent contractor. Payments for services are reportable and taxable as earned income. No Federal, State, or Local income taxes will be deducted. No social security or medicare taxes
will be deducted. Student is responsible for payment of all taxes as a result of income received under this order. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) will report the total amount paid under this order to the Internal Revenue Service on a Standard form 1099.
The student is not considered an employee and will not receive a W-2 form.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">For payment, student must have a checking or savings account at a financial institution that will accept direct deposits of Federal funds.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Student selected will be required to register as a government contractor at the website
<a href="http://www.ccr.gov">www.ccr.gov</a> and provide the USGS with their social security number. Student will be required to complete a federal background investigation, computer security awareness training and comply with the USGS Computer and Network
Security Handbook. First Aid/CPR is required and training will be provided by the USGS.<o:p></o:p></p>
