On May 22nd, there is an optional tour to Central Grasslands Research Extension Center in Streeter, ND. Central Grasslands Research Extension Center is located in south central North Dakota in the Missouri Coteau known as the Prairie Pothole Region. The Prairie
Pothole Region is known for its importance to waterfowl, producing over 50% of the lower 48 state ducks.<br>
<br>
The Center has 10 full-time research scientists and staff studying areas including range science, forage agronomy and animal science. Central Grasslands Research Extension Center was created to address the following research priorities areas: 1) range ecology
and grazing management; 2) forage systems; and 3) livestock nutrition and reproductive efficiency. To accomplish these objectives, the Center manages approximately 900 beef animals, including 425 to 450 breeding females. The land base for these operations
includes 5,335 acres, of which the majority is native and improved pasture.<br>
<br>
A major focus of the center is to study disturbance ecology and grazing efficiency of our grasslands to 1) increase economic return for the livestock grower, 2) enhance plant diversity, 3) improve habitat for pollinator and bird species, 4) improve soil health,
and 5) maintain or improve herd health and reproductive performance.<br>
<br>
Current projects we will tour include 1) patch-burn grazing rangelands (both spring burn treatment and summer burn treatment, 2) modified twice-over rest rotation that is designed to mimic patch burn grazing without fire, 3) impacts of treatments on birds and
pollinators, 4) impacts of treatments on livestock, vegetation and soils, and 5) grazing efficiency study.<br>

Members of the Rangelands Partnership recently received a Conservation Innovation Grant (CIG) to develop a rangelands thesaurus that will improve the effectiveness of finding and delivering key grazingland technical information to conservation planners and
other land managers. The three-year project led by the University of Idaho and University of Arizona, will use a standard vocabulary to tag information resources (e.g. manuals, handbooks, scientific literature) at the document or paragraph level for more efficient
and relevant searching. This information will be available using a web‐based, mobile‐friendly application with online/offline capabilities that provides a search interface for discovering and delivering relevant rangeland resources.<br>

Over the next few years, five working groups (thesaurus development, content selection, content indexing, website/app development, and distribution) will work together to complete the project. The RP is critical to this effort. We will need your assistance
to develop the thesaurus, to find the right content, and to test the app. At our meeting in May, we will spend some time focusing on thesaurus development and content selection. There will be breakout sessions for these two topic areas so please be prepared
to join one or both discussions. <br>

Amber and I also led updates on the activities by the Social Media and Marketing task force. The task force, (Sheila Merrigan, Retta Bruegger, Livia Olsen, Amy Shannon, Amber, and myself) has met regularly throughout the past year to discuss ideas for outreach
on our main page, Facebook, and members have been busy creating content. Along with continuing our efforts to regularly post content to the page, Livia has initiated survey questions in an effort to learn more about our Facebook followers. These surveys have
received positive engagement from those contributing to the comment section and overall have resulted in positive numbers within Facebook Insights. The latter half of our April posting resulted in at 375% increase in page views, a 200% increase in page likes,
300% increase in page followers, and increased our post reach by 6%.<br>
