Plant Society will be teaming up again to teach a <span class="x_il">grass</span> identification
<span class="x_il">class</span>. Native <span class="x_il">grasses</span> offer a special challenge because of their tiny flower parts and a tendency to all look astonishingly similar. To get started with
<span class="x_il">grasses</span>, it is essential to understand the terminology and how it pertains to the specimen on your microscope stage. This
<span class="x_il">class</span> is designed to introduce botanists to the terms and how to apply them to real field-specimens.</span></p>
<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38; margin-top:0pt; margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="font-size:9.5pt; font-family:Arial; background-color:transparent; vertical-align:baseline; white-space:pre-wrap"></span></p>
<p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38; margin-top:0pt; margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="font-size:9.5pt; font-family:Arial; background-color:transparent; vertical-align:baseline; white-space:pre-wrap">The
<span class="x_il">class</span> will be taught by Mike Bauer, University of Arizona Herbarium, and will consist of two six-hour days of training. The first day will be lecture and lab and the second mostly lab. Mike has worked up an excellent set of handouts
on common local <span class="x_il">grasses</span>, <span class="x_il">grass</span> parts, and
<span class="x_il">grass</span> tribes that will help folks who are new to <span class="x_il">
grasses</span> focus on what is most important for identifying them. The <span class="x_il">
class</span> is two days long and each day-long session will be held on a Friday. The course will be taught at the University of Arizona Herbarium (Herring Hall). The cost to students is $40, and the funds will go to the University of Arizona Foundation and
the Arizona Native Plant Society. </span></p>
