is offering an exciting career opportunity as a Range
Management Extension Field Specialist. We are looking for an
individual to join us in growing and building our new regional
extension center located in Lemmon, SD. This is a 12 month,
full-time, non-faculty exempt position. <BR><BR>PURPOSE OF
POSITION: <BR>To provide strong regional and statewide
leadership in delivering research-based programming in the
Competitive Livestock capstone area. The Range Management
Field Specialist will be responsible for development and
dissemination of research-based programming and resources in
support of the rangeland managers across South Dakota. They
will travel extensively to build strong relationships with
producer groups, agribusinesses, and governmental agencies to
identify ongoing and emerging range issues.
<BR><BR>RESPONSIBILITIES: <BR>This position requires strong
knowledge and experience in developing or leading learning
communities; ability to conduct impact programming based on
local needs assessments; commitment to the development of
emerging technology materials for program development and
delivery; ability to collaborate on emerging issues; and
develop relationships with pertinent stakeholders. These
positions also have a responsibility to secure programmatic
funding, conduct evaluation, and successfully engage with the
public by bridging research to practice. Extension Field
Specialists report to academic Department Heads who are
located on the SDSU campus, and will work collaboratively with
Extension Program Director, State Specialists, Field
Specialists, and other faculty members in their respective
department. <BR><BR>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: <BR>- Master's
Degree (completed prior to start date). One degree in Range
Management or other closely related field required. <BR>-
Experience with grazing systems, range and pasture
improvements, invasive species control, and plant
identification. <BR>- Ability to communicate effectively with
diverse audiences. <BR>- Strong interpersonal skills; ability
to work as a team member. <BR>- Demonstrated use of technology
in managing and/or delivering educational programs. <BR>-
Demonstrated ability or potential to plan, implement, and
evaluate educational materials and direct effective programs.
<BR>- Valid South Dakota driver's license or ability to obtain
one within 30 days of hire, and willingness to travel.
<BR><BR>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: <BR>- Previous Extension
Service experience. <BR>- Demonstrated leadership in
developing or leading learning communities. <BR>- Demonstrated
leadership and teamwork with stakeholders. <BR>- Demonstrated
collaboration in developing funding proposals to support new
and/or enhanced programming. <BR>- Knowledge of conservation
and wildlife habitat programs provided by federal (e.g., Farm
Bill, US Fish and Wildlife Service), state (e.g., SD Game,
Fish and Parks), and non-governmental (e.g., Pheasants
Forever) agencies, and how these programs are implemented in

and Cultural Expectations </LABEL></SPAN></TD>
<TD class=tableInLtShade height=30 width="33%">SDSU EXTENSION:
<BR>SDSU Extension is one mode of outreach utilized by South
Dakota State University. It brings educational programs and
research-based information to the citizens of South Dakota.
The mission of SDSU Extension is "Growing South Dakota". It
works with academic departments and the Agricultural
Experiment Station to provide unbiased, science-based
knowledge focused on issues and needs. Extension has five
capstone program areas, Competitive Crops Systems, Competitive
Livestock Systems, Youth and Community Leadership, Food and
Families, and Urban/Rural Initiatives, which are part of the
College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences and College of
Education and Human Sciences. <BR><BR>DEPARTMENT: <BR>The
Department of Natural Resource Management (NRM) in the College
of Agriculture and Biological Sciences (ABS) administers B.S.
degrees in Ecology and Environmental Science, Range Science,
and Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences. The Ecology and
Environmental Science major functions under Ecological Society
of America certification, the Range Science major is
accredited by the Society for Range Management, and the
Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences major meets certification
standards set by both the American Fisheries Society and The
Wildlife Society. Graduate degrees (M.S. and Ph.D.) are
available in Biological Sciences and in Wildlife and Fisheries
Sciences. The NRM Department hosts the South Dakota
Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (3 faculty members
with the U.S. Geological Survey), 2 employees from the South
Dakota Department of Game, Fish, and Parks, and the 3
employees in our Wetlands Inventory. In addition to teaching
and research responsibilities, South Dakota Extension has
stationed 4 employees in the department.
<BR><BR>UNIVERSITY/COMMUNITY: <BR>SDSU is a land grant
institution and the state's largest institution of higher
education with an enrollment of approximately 13,000 students.
SDSU is located in Brookings, South Dakota, a community of
approximately 22,100 near the east central border of South
Dakota on Interstate 29. This position will be located in
Lemmon, SD. Lemmon, South Dakota, has a population of 1,200
and is located in Perkins County in the northwestern part of
the state. Lemmon is located in the middle of the Grand River
and Cedar River National Grasslands, and close to the North
