<b>Miller/Ginny Saylor Publication Grant for 2012. </b></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial; COLOR: #3366ff">In all, $1,000 is available to individuals or nonprofit organizations to assist in publishing––either traditionally or on the web––materials related to Arizona native plants. Membership in
AZNPS is not required. One or more grants may be awarded to projects that will be judged on their a) contribution to scientific knowledge of native plants, b) public understanding of native plants and their environments, or c) conservation of native plants.
These grants are to be used for publication costs only, not research.</span></p>

<strong>Volunteers will meet up with the Bureau of Land Management</strong><span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><strong>8 am, at the west side of I-10 interstate and Avra Valley road. There is a large area to park there. We are planning on a full day
returning to the Interstate by around 4 pm.</strong><br>

<strong>The drive south on Agua Dulce is 5 minutes south of Avra Valley road. Volunteers will walk into site ¾ mile; pick up backpacks and trash and fill trash bags. There is such a large amount of trash, we will probably need to return another day to get it
all. Some volunteers who want to be the walkers will be needed to walk the trash out to the road to the trucks. We do not want to bring in any vehicles, ATVs etc. which would cause more resource damage so we will carry the trash bags out to the Agua Dulce
road. BLM will provide bags, gloves, dust mask, goggles. Bring your lunch, water, sunscreen, good hiking boots, long pants and long sleeved shirts, hat. We will make the bags light to get them to the truck. For this project, we ask that volunteers be in good
physical health and be able to hike the distance to the site.</strong><br>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial; FONT-SIZE: 10pt">Come join like-minded volunteers to help combat giant reed (<i>Arundo donax</i>) in Bear Canyon Wash for the bi-annual Bear Canyon Wash Arundo removal event sponsored by Pima County Regional
Flood Control District and The Nature Conservancy. The event will take place on Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 8 am until noon. Volunteers are needed to cut/bundle cane and dig/bag rhizomes within Bear Canyon Wash (see attached arundo removal guidelines).
Since parking near the work site is limited, carpooling is recommended. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial; FONT-SIZE: 10pt">Volunteers will meet at the shopping center located on the NE corner of Tanque Verde and Bear Canyon Roads at 8 am. To reach the designated parking spot, take the second entrance (right)

El Aribabi was recently designated a Natural Protected Area by the Mexican government. The designation protects 10,000 acres of private property located in Municipality of Imuris, Sonora for ecosystem and biodiversity conservation, environmental education,
and ecotourism.</span></p>
