Hello everybody,<div><br></div><div>I just wanted to send around some information on the Quivira Coalition Conference to students and non-students. This takes place over three days in November (8th-10th) in Albuquerque, NM. I encourage you to check out the information below as well as this link to read over details on what the conference will include this year: <a href="http://quiviracoalition.org/10th_Anniversary_Conference/index.html">http://quiviracoalition.org/10th_Anniversary_Conference/index.html</a> . It's a great opportunity for rangeland ecology and management students, especially the all-day workshop on Tuesday the 8th, titled "Managing Rangelands for Success in the 21st Century". </div>
<div><br></div><div><b><u>STUDENTS</u></b>: There are 4 scholarships available (due to an anonymous donation) for University of Arizona or Arizona State University students to attend the conference for free - this covers all registration for the three days, a banquet on Thursday the 10th, and all meals (it doesn't cover hotel and travel expenses). These are on a<u> first-come, first-serve</u> basis and <b>all</b> you have to do to receive the scholarship is email Catherine Baca at cbaca@****** and let her know that you're a student at the UofA and would like to apply for the scholarship to attend the meeting - and it's yours!</div>
<div><br></div><div>I know that two of these four scholarships <i>at least</i> have already been taken by UofA students, so you need to act quick if you want to try and get one of the remaining scholarships!</div><div><br>
</div><div>If you plan on attending the conference, either through the scholarship or by paying or it yourself - <u>please let me know</u>, as it will make travel and hotel expenses cheaper for all UofA students who will be attending. Prices for hotel rooms and registration fees go way up after October 25th.</div>

the Quivira Coalition’s 10th Anniversary Conference. Quivira recognizes
the urgent need to connect experienced land owners/manager<span style="color:#1F497D">s</span> and conservation leaders with the next
generation of people who will be responsible for growing our food and
stewarding our planet.  At this event we will pack the room with agrarians
of all sorts -- new and old, urban and rural, cowboy boots and Birkenstock
sandals – and create the ideal conditions for conversing with like-minded
people, contemplating apprenticeship, exploring partnerships, learning about
land transfer programs, and more!  We will start the evening with a short
presentation by Julie Sullivan and George Whitten (San Juan Ranch), experienced
new agrarian mentors. They will walk us through the “do’s and
don’ts” of mentoring new agrarians, and then we will kick off the
meet and greet. <u></u><u></u></span></p>

<p style="text-indent:.5in"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Prospective employers/mentors will include
(but are not limited to) private ranches and farms, conservation groups, food
advocacy organizations, government agencies, land use service consultants (i.e.
Holistic Management), and related private-sector businesses.<u></u><u></u></span></p>

like “job fair” meets “county fair livestock show”
meets “speed dating.”  Employers/mentors will be represented
at tables grouped according to type, and interested new agrarians will make 2

– new and experienced agrarians, alike – should bring pertinent

Manager. </span></b><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><a href="http://www.deepsprings.edu/home" target="_blank">Deep Springs College</a> is seeking an <a href="http://www.deepsprings.edu/employment" target="_blank">experienced person to manage the
college's cattle ranching operation</a>, beginning January 1st, 2012. Deep
Springs grazes approximately 300 cattle on a mixture of private and Federal
lands covering over 100,000 acres in the White Mountains east of Bishop,
California and a portion of Fish Lake Valley near the Nevada border. The ranch
is an integral part of Deep Springs' educational mission and the Ranch Manager
is expected to prioritize student involvement along with productivity. In
addition to an academic course load, all students work at least twenty hours
