<blockquote type="cite"><font face="Comic Sans MS">The Volcano based technician will be a member of the Pacific Southwest Research Station's Program in Conservation of Biodiversity, supporting research on insect agents for biological control of invasive plants
in forests of Hawaii and other Pacific islands. Duties include: conducting quarantine and field studies of host specificity, development, behavior, population dynamics and impacts of phytophagous insects; organizing and analyzing ecological and geographic
data; preparing written and graphic reports of results; maintaining insect colonies in quarantine; organizing use of lab and bench space; performing routine maintenance and minor repairs in quarantine and plant nursery; collecting and propagating native and
introduced plants. Work will be conducted in office, laboratory and field environments, including rainforests where terrain is often uneven, rocky, and covered with thick vegetation, and where there is exposure to extremes of weather and temperature. The employee

<blockquote type="cite"><font face="Comic Sans MS">The Hilo based technician will be a member of the Pacific Southwest Research Station's multidisciplinary Water, Air and Soil team within the Ecosystem Function and Health Program, supporting research on ecosystem
ecology, global change science and forest restoration. Duties will include leading field-based activities to support research on micrometeorology and biogeochemistry of tropical forests, the impacts of various threats including climate change and invasive
species, and restoration of tropical landscapes. The research activities for the incumbent will support research that leads to an understanding of how land use, climate change, restoration and management strategies affect the forest resource. The incumbent
will support research that seeks to evaluate and integrate knowledge about the complex interactions of climate, soil, plant, and water resources to meet the information needs of managers ranging from producers to strategic decision makers. Work will be conducted
in office, laboratory and field environments, including rainforests where terrain is often uneven, rocky, and covered with thick vegetation, and where there is exposure to extremes of weather and temperature. The employee sometimes may be required to use protective
