Hello SD-CWMA Participants,
Stinknet has started to flower! The Stinknet Working Group has been actively coordinating rapid response efforts to remove new (and old) stinknet sightings. It looks like some flowering stinknet has been spotted near Arivaipa Canyon 🙁. To protect this beautiful area from a widespread infestation in this lovely Canyon, Dan Beckham, Biological Science Technician at Saguaro National Park, and others are coordinating a volunteer treatment outing on March 27th.
It is a long drive (~1.5 hours), but I'm told the flowers look amazing right now so it should be a stunning drive. Please help us protect this area by joining the effort & it's also a great educational opportunity if you are not yet familiar with this species.
Below are some of the details, but keep in mind that the group is still finalizing these details. If you are interested in joining, please sign up HERE<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jLLJwELnpCNXRlp95H5t9K5CYU3EJT1AGZL7eIxSrjc/edit?usp=sharing> and Dan will keep you posted.
Date: Wednesday, March 27th
Meeting Location: Along north Oracle Rd. and carpool from there.
Stinknet Location: The property is at 85277 E Aravaipa Rd, an easy road for any vehicle.
Work Description: The plan for Wednesday is to have a few experienced sprayers treat one side of a very dense patch, and have hand pullers on the other side in a patch that has a mix of stinknet and natives.
Direct any questions about this outing to Dan Beckman who is copied on this message.
Lastly, I don't believe I've shared the new Stinknet Flyer with this group. See the attached final version of the flyer that our SD-CWMA Stinknet Working Group put together.
Share with your volunteers or those who may be interested in joining!
Best Regards,
Vianey Avila
