[SRM] summer field tech positions

We are looking for three hardworking & enthusiastic full- or part-time field techs to join our 2024 summer research team!
THE PROJECT:
U.S. ranchers have long relied on rangelands to provide forage for livestock. More recently, there is a growing interest in rangelands providing a broader array of ecosystem services including sustainable forage, healthy riparian areas, and high-quality sage grouse habitat. Despite a growing interest in managing ecosystem services on rangelands, there is no consensus on how management practices affect the sustainable provision of these services.
Our goal is to learn how to better manage rangelands for multiple ecosystem services.  Our project examines how three different grazing systems - season-long continuous grazing, four pasture grazing, and short-duration rotational grazing -- affect target ecosystem services including: sustainable forage production, riparian health, & sage-grouse habitat. To do this, we will collect data on vegetation, riparian habitat, and sage-grouse habitat across public lands managed by the BLM plus a private ranch.

JOB SCOPE:
Field Technicians will work in collaboration with the Project Manager. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  *   Vegetation sampling, identification, & collection
  *   Water quality monitoring
  *   Soil sampling & processing
QUALIFICATIONS:
Excellent communicator, detail-oriented & a team-player

  *   Must be comfortable working in cold to very hot weather, be able to carry up to 10 lbs of gear, and be able to work up to 10 hours / day in these conditions
  *   1 crew member with excellent plant ID skills
  *   Experience collecting rangeland vegetation & soil data is desired, but not required
LOCATION, WORK SCHEDULE & PAY
Hiring full- and part-time positions

  *   Positions run through May 15th to August 25th with two weekends in September
  *   Full-time is 4, 10-hour days / week, 14 weeks total
  *   Most weeks will be spent in the field in Randolph, UT. Housing will be provided at a BLM field station during field work; Technicians provide their own food.
  *   Some weeks will be spent in Logan, UT processing soil samples. Housing not provided during in-Logan work weeks.
  *   Pay starts at $15-17/hr, based on experience.
