Hi all,

>> Please distribute widely among students at UC Berkeley! <<

Come help out the Oak Woodland Restoration Project at Hastings Natural History Reservation<https://hastingsreserve.org/>! We are looking for a handful of students to help restore important habitat for blue oak (Quercus douglasii) impacted by the October 2024 Piney Fire<https://www.fire.ca.gov/incidents/2024/10/8/piney-fire> and subsequent fire suppression efforts. With the aim of preparing blue oak saplings for long-term success, we will need to monitor the impacted areas for invasive weeds and engage in established restoration techniques. Tasks will include invasive plant removal, irrigation methods, mulching, and more. This project was funded by the TGIF<https://tgif.berkeley.edu> grant opportunity.

Through your participation in this project, you'll gain invaluable experience and education in restoration, get compensated for it ($18.77/hour), and get to spend time at a beautiful reserve in Carmel Valley, CA. Housing will be provided as well as mileage compensation if you drive your own vehicle. A full kitchen and mattresses will be available, but bring your own food and bedding (i.e. sleeping bag, pillow, bedsheet). Each trip will be a one night stay.

If you are interested and meet all the requirements, sign up here:

- Must be comfortable spending several hours in the field
- Must be free at least one of these date ranges:

**Depending on weather, these dates could be subject to change.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out. Please contact the project lead Natalia Valdes (nvaldesh at berkeley.edu<mailto:nvaldesh at berkeley.edu>).
