Subject: 2 Job Postings: Postdoc/Research PM and Project Administrator

Hello from northern Finland,

We have just opened two new employment positions in our Faculty, and I would be super grateful if you could share to your networks. As a recent arrival (with a 3-year postdoc) in Oulu myself, I can say that this is quite a pleasant place to live, the salary is more than adequate to live comfortably here, and the community is welcoming even for those who – like me – do not speak Finnish.

Both positions are four-year, full-time opportunities working on a new Horizon Europe project about forest management in Europe and beyond. FORbEST (“Safeguarding Carbon and Biodiversity Across European Forest Ecosystems Through Multi-actor Innovation”) is a consortium of 18 partner institutions (from Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Finland, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Romania, Thailand, and the UK) working to restore and protect natural and semi-natural forest ecosystems. The project brings together researchers from across social, human and natural sciences, and employs a range of methodological approaches, including Living Labs, PAR, remote sensing, and eDNA metabarcoding. I am looking to hire two people for this project: a scientific project manager (PhD required) and a research assistant/project administrator (Master's degree required). More details and instructions for applying can be found at each of these links:

Position 1: Scientific Project Manager: https://oulunyliopisto.varbi.com/en/what:job/jobID:745713<https://oulunyliopisto.varbi.com/en/what:job/jobID:745713>

Position 2: Research Assistant/Project Administrator: https://oulunyliopisto.varbi.com/en/what:job/jobID:738312<https://oulunyliopisto.varbi.com/en/what:job/jobID:738312>

The deadline for applications for both posts is Sunday 15 September at 11:59 EET. I would be happy to answer any questions about their scope and duties, so please feel free to ask any eligible and interested colleagues to get in touch. The project leader is Roger Norum (Assistant Professor, Cultural Anthropology), who can be reached at roger.norum at oulu.fi<mailto:roger.norum at oulu.fi>. For any questions about the University of Oulu, the application process, or moving to Finland, feel free to reach out to me.

Best,

-Tracy
