Goldwater Scholarship

The purpose of the Goldwater Scholarship is to provide a continuing source of highly qualified scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. Goldwater Scholars demonstrate outstanding potential, and they intend to pursue research-oriented careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. Each scholarship covers eligible expenses for undergraduate tuition, fees, books, and room and board, up to a maximum of $7,500 annually.

Campus Deadlinefor ApplicationMaterials: January 16th, 2023, at 10am

National deadline for Application Materials: Late January

A campus nomination committee reviews all applications and selects four UArizona nominees. We may select a fifth nominee if one of the candidates is a transfer student. They also provide feedback to the nominees. After the nominees make any necessary revisions, their applications are forwarded to the Goldwater Foundation. It reviews roughly 1200 applicants each year and selects up to 260 Goldwater Scholars.

Bythe campus deadline,applicants must submit application in the portal and emailthe followingmaterials to

a.     *UnofficialTranscripts— Obtained from UAccess 

b.     CurrentResume/CV

c.      If Permanent Resident, then must submit a copy of your Permanent Resident Card

d.     *Letters of Recommendation (3): Goldwater offersguidance (linked) on their website that should be shared with recommenders.

Transcripts

Unofficial transcripts will be accepted for the campus deadline, but if selected to be endorsed by the institution you will need to submit official transcripts.

Could you share the attached document with your respective student/staff/faculty lists? The Office of Nationally Competitive Scholarships is promoting the Goldwater Scholarship, an undergraduate award for students with great promise/potential to be STEM researchers as a clear career goal. We will be hosting upcoming workshops to share information and answer questions for prospective applicants; Valeria Quijada from ONCS (copied here) will reach out with that information. Although the campus deadline is not until January, students should begin now to prepare competitive applications and we are here to help.
