New restoration job opportunity at Mt. Graham, Arizona
A new one-year, full time position is available through Taproot Collaborative, a Tucson-based non-profit organization. The position is for an Education and Outreach Coordinator in an exciting forest restoration project atop the Pinaleño Mountains (known as Dzil Nchaa Si’an in Apache, Mt. Graham in English). The project site is located near Safford, Arizona.
Work will focus on building collaboration within the San Carlos Apache Tribe to restore sacred springs and eroded watersheds using effective, low-cost restoration practices used by Southwestern tribes for thousands of years. A San Carlos tribal member is preferred. Working closely with diverse partners on and off the San Carlos Apache Reservation, this position offers the immediate opportunity to drive meaningful change in three critical areas:
* Restore high elevation forests, springs, and watersheds on Mt. Graham, while regenerating critical wildlife habitats for endangered species.
* Build conservation knowledge and capacities on the Reservation, and a new generation of up-and-coming tribal conservationists.
* Foster practical skills on the Reservation that can be used in agriculture, to improve forest health, and to offset the impacts of drought and increasing climate change.
Taproot Collaborative is seeking an energetic individual with a passion for environmental restoration. Strong communication, organizational, and inter-personal skills are required. Professional development will be provided as necessary. The deadline for submission is May 8 2023.
