The Bureau of Land Management's Paria River District anticipates hiring a Planning and Environmental Specialist sometime in 2022. Some duties include: 1. Review of environmental documents to ensure compliance and consistency with applicable laws and regulations, 2. Coordination of policy and procedures related to documentation for NEPA and other environmental laws, 3. Lead and coordinate planning processes (such as environmental assessments), 4. Work with managers, project leads, program specialists (such as wildlife biologists, archeologists), 5. Work with local communities and citizen-based organizations regarding issues that pertain to the management of public lands.
Training specific to environmental law broadly, and NEPA specifically, is key. Essential skills include strong technical writing skills, effective oral and written communication skills, and facility with Word (Adobe Acrobat and GIS skills very beneficial).
This is a district position that will support the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument (GSENM, GSENM website<https://www.blm.gov/programs/national-conservation-lands/utah/grand-staircase-escalante-national-monument>) as well as the Kanab Field Office (KFO, KFO website<https://www.blm.gov/office/kanab-field-office>). The GSENM is in the planning process for an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to develop a Resource Management Plan (RMP) that will dictate the land management of the GSENM for several decades[TA1] . The position will play a key role in working with managers, specialists, and state office personnel to aid in the development of the RMP.
The Bureau of Land Management provides entry-level developmental work experience opportunities through the Pathways Program, which includes the Internship and Recent Graduates Programs. These serve individuals who are either currently in school or have recently graduated (within two years) from an accredited educational institution. Upon successful completion of either of these programs, a participant may be noncompetitively converted to a permanent or term appointment. [TA2]
We have looked at your College of Agriculture of Life Sciences. We believe your current students or recent graduates might have the skills we are looking for. We would like to set up a call to discuss the BLM position and your program, and see how we might pursue opportunities to advertise or recruit for applicants.

Regards,
