As primary responsibilities of this position, the incumbent will help develop and conduct research in precision livestock management of range beef production. This research will primarily be conducted at the Gudmundsen Sandhills Laboratory, near Whitman, NE.  Gudmundsen Sandhills Laboratory is a 12,800-acre research facility with approximately 550 cows and 240 yearlings (replacement heifers and stockers). Work will include modelling of real time individual animal data that result in decision support tools for producers by using a combination of new and traditional data collection. Data collection will include GPS-tracking collars, accelerometers, virtual fence technology, 3-D imagery and analysis, individual animal electronic feeding systems, forage and feed intake modeling, drone and satellite remote sensing, and other novel precision livestock management technologies.
