Adena Rissman’s People, Institutions, and Ecosystems PIE lab has openings for 4 graduate students to begin in summer or fall 2020. These projects will provide insights for efforts to conserve and regenerate environmental benefits from working lands in complex social-ecological systems.

The PhD student on this project will investigate governance and behavior at the nexus of agriculture for food, fiber, and bioenergy, water quality and quantity, and biodiversity in the upper Midwest.

The PhD student on the Grassland 2.0 project will research and help develop policy and governance for increasing perennial cover and agroforestry in Wisconsin and the 12-state north central region.

This Ph.D. student will work collaboratively on a USDA funded project, Conservation and succession success for farm and woodland owners focused on understanding new landowners and their needs. This person will also assist Extension staff with extension to new landowners, which will include agroforestry and outreach to women landowners.

The MS or PhD student on this project will conduct policy and stakeholder research and outreach to understand and enhance water quality protection through nonpoint source pollution reduction in eastern Wisconsin.
