Dear UA Tierra Seca, AVCA partners and UA colleagues:

The annual fall monitoring day at the Altar Valley Conservation Alliance Elkhorn/Las Delicias Demo project is just around the corner on Friday Nov 1, 2019 starting at 9 am sharp.  We should be done by 2 pm at the latest.  All the monitoring supplies plus snacks and drinks will be provided.  Please wear sturdy walking shoes and clothing to protect you from sun and stickers ~ and bring a water bottle.  (We will not be walking a long distance, but the terrain is rocky and there are lots of desert stickers.)  We will provide an overview of the project, demonstrate the monitoring technique and then break into teams to do the monitoring.  You do NOT have to have monitoring experience to contribute to the day.  This is a great opportunity to get outdoors, learn about the Altar Valley, and see a watershed conservation project in action. Driving directions:  Take Ajo Highway Route 86 out of Tucson … turn south onto Sasabe Highway Route 286 at Three Points (look for signs to Sasabe or Bueno Aires National Wildlife Refuge) … just past Border Patrol checkpoint and between mileposts 26 and 25, look for the Elkhorn Ranch sign … turn onto the dirt road … stop at the 3rd cattle guard, including the cattle guard at the highway.  You can put 27000 West Elkhorn Ranch Road into your map app to assist.  It is a 1.5 - 2 hour drive from Tucson, depending on where you start your journey.
