Hello,

The Forest Stewards Guild is hiring new positions to staff a new office in Loveland, Colorado. This new office will anchor expanded Guild activity in the Intermountain West – a new region! – and house the growing Guild Fire Management program. To read more about our work to restore forests and fire as a natural process, see our Fall issue ofForest Steward.

The fire positions will serve as mid-level positions for the Guild’s operational fire team, theGravitas Peak Wildland Fire Module,https://www.gpwfm.org/ and support its continued development into a regional prescribed fire resource. Two specialists will support our planning and training needs, respectively, and a third technician will support logistics. The Intermountain West Regional Coordinator position will work closely with fire management personnel but will support a broader range of activities in the region. The new Business Coordinator will support day-to-day administration both locally and for the entire Guild.

Business Coordinator
 
The Business Coordinator will support Guild-wide, as well as Regional and Fire Module business operations and tracking, as well as other projects as assigned. This position will engage in a variety of projects, including timesheet management, match tracking, and communications and outreach.
 
Organization Description
 
The Forest Stewards Guild, a national organization of foresters and allied natural resource professionals, is dedicated to practicing and promoting values-based forestry. The Guild has 700 members, over half of whom are professionals who manage over 42 million acres of forestland in the United States and Canada. The Guild maintains regional offices in New Mexico, Colorado, Maine, North Carolina, and Wisconsin.
The position will be managed by and work closely with the Forest Stewards Guild Fire Management program. The Fire Management Program is dedicated to supporting fire as a natural process in fire-adapted ecosystems on a landscape scale to improve ecosystem function and health and increase wildfire resilience, as well as to increasing the pace and scale of prescribed fire, increasing diversity and inclusion in the fire practitioner community.
 
  
 
Position Description
 
The successful candidate will have experience in business management and coordination and be proficient in financial technology. Additionally, the Guild is a rapidly growing mission driven organization, and a preferred candidate will benefit from a desire to be of service to those goals as well as an interest in an expanding position. They will:
    
   - Administrative tasks such as timesheets, bills, and credit card bookkeeping
   - Assist in payroll and benefit management.
   - Assist in HR compliance and tracking.
   - Interface with Communications Coordinator on social media and website
   - Support marketing and fundraising efforts
   - Maintain Guild calendars (reporting, compliance, etc.)
   - Assist in quarterly match tracking
   - Assist in Guild-wide bookkeeping and other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
   - Assist Regional Directors on project by project code basis
   - Manage work assignments with minimal direction from supervisors
 
Minimum Qualifications:
    
   - Clear verbal and written communication skills
   - Excellent computer skills
   - Well-organized and detail oriented
   - Self-directed
 
Preferred Qualifications:
    
   - Proficiency with business technology
   - Minor IT experience
   - Previous bookkeeping experience
   - Proven problem solver with a bias for action

Compensation
$20/hr. Paid leave and paid holiday benefits are provided. Employer-sponsored comprehensive health and dental care coverage is available after 30 days of continuous employment. The Intermountain West Regional Coordinator position will provide planning support and project management for forestry and fire projects in the Intermountain West region. This position will engage in a variety of projects, including writing community wildfire protection plans, forestry and fire research projects, outreach, prescribed fire, ecological and socioeconomic monitoring, and youth training.

Candidates should have a passion for increasing the pace and scale of prescribed fire, increasing diversity and inclusion in the fire practitioner community, and building fire resilient landscapes.

Position Description
 
The successful candidate will have strong organization skills, planning document generation experience, entrepreneurial attitude and aptitude, and a desire to support ecological forestry and fire practices in the Intermountain West. This position is the “first hire” for the new Intermountain West Region, and the ideal candidate will possess the desire and abilities to expand the position and increase the Regional presence. This position is not a primary fire position. Previous wildland fire operational experience is not required, but a desire to participate in prescribed fire is supported.  They will:
    
   - Support and/or lead planning document generation, including fuels specialist reports for Environmental Assessments, community wildfire protection plans, and other similar projects.
   - Manage work assignments with minimal direction from supervisors
   - Provide planning support for Forest Stewards Guild projects, including Guild Fire Management activities.
   - Organize and lead public meetings.
   - Coordinate with project partners to ensure planning, personnel, and equipment needs are met.
   - As needed and desired, may support Guild prescribed fire and wildfire operations.
   - May oversee staff, volunteers, and individuals or crews from other agencies or organizations
   - May work in variable weather conditions, in remote locations, and on difficult or hazardous terrain and / or in other physically demanding environments.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
    
   - Clear verbal and written communication skills.
   - Solid technical writing skills
   - Project management experience
   - Self-direction
   - GIS experience
   - Bachelor’s or Masters in fire ecology, forestry, or other natural resources.
   - Effective knowledge of common software applications.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
    
   - Grant writing experience
   - Experience in prescribed fire operations and leadership
   - Qualified as a FEMO or FFT1
   - Previous experience authoring fire management documents such as burn plans and community wildfire protection plans.
   - Wilderness First Responder or higher medical qualifications.
