Pima County’s Office of Sustainability and Conservation is excited to announce the opening of an entry-level Program Coordinator position. The successful candidate will assist with the implementation of the Pima County Ecological Monitoring Program (PCEMP)<http://webcms.pima.gov/cms/One.aspx?portalId=169&pageId=52896>, a key feature of the County's Endangered Species Act Multi-Species Conservation Plan (MSCP)<http://webcms.pima.gov/cms/one.aspx?portalId=169&pageId=52674> Section 10 permit, across the County’s broad Conservation Lands System<http://webcms.pima.gov/cms/one.aspx?portalId=169&pageId=53493>.  Primary duties will be to collect and synthesize field data related to plant and vertebrate populations and their habitats. Much of the work will be outdoors and in challenging environmental conditions (i.e., desert heat, rough terrain).  Office work will include data management and organization, monitoring protocol development, annual report writing, inter-departmental and -agency coordination, and other duties as assigned. There may be supervisory responsibilities for intermittent staff, volunteers, and/or consultants.

Duties/Responsibilities: Performs field-based inventory and monitoring activities working together with other County staff and/or consultants for plants, vertebrates, invertebrates and their habitats in support of the PCEMP:
•        Implement a variety of specialized field monitoring protocols, techniques, methods, and tools to determine trends and conditions of covered species and habitats;
•        Data entry of field investigations in appropriate databases;
•        Work with County's Information Technology department and staff from other departments to develop database tools for the PCEMP;
•        Use of geographic information system functions (i.e., ArcGIS) to assist field efforts and manage PCEMP monitoring data;
•        Assists with the integration of data synthesis, interpretation, and the creation reports for the county, state, and federal agencies;
•        Gathers and synthesizes historical data including from observations and reports and inputs information into appropriate county databases;
•        Develops web content appropriate for the public on species and other natural resources of interest to the County;
•        Fields inquiries from other cooperating agencies and researchers;
•        Works with other County departments and external agencies in support of the PCEMP and other program needs, including data management and outreach.
