[SRM] Fw: Seasonal Rangeland Monitoring Position

 University of Arizona Gila County Cooperative Extension is hiring a contract position to assist with rangeland monitoring on the Tonto National Forest from mid- September 2019 to April 2020. The position is based out of the Globe Extension office, but covers all of the Tonto NF. Work is primarily outdoors and involves physical exertion including standing, crouching, and hiking in variable environmental conditions. It also involves extended driving of 4-wheel-drive vehicles over rough terrain and may involve occasional overnight camping in remote locations. A valid driver’s license is required at time of employment and personnel must meet requirements of the University security screening process. Monitoring typically takes place Tuesday-Thursday, but work can be 10-14 hours long.  Personnel will be paid $18-$25 an hour depending on experience. This is a contracted position and benefits are not provided. 
Minimum skills include: Ability to be on time. Basic knowledge of plant identification and how to identify vegetation using a key. Basic knowledge of monitoring techniques such as dry weight rank, frequency, fetch, and utilization. Knowledge of GIS and GPS applications.  
 
Preferred skills include: Bachelor's degree in rangeland ecology and management, environmental science, or ecology. Prior experience with vegetation monitoring. Strong plant identification skills of native and invasive Arizona plant species (especially from 2,400ft to 7,900ft elevation). Able to demonstrate the ability to work with minimum supervision. Prior experience with VGS.
