Part-time Student Research Assistant

We are seeking a part-time student research assistant to join a meta-analysis project examining the worldwide phenomenon of woody plant encroachment. For the past century, woody plants have become more abundant in arid grassland ecosystems at the expense of grasses. The mechanisms driving this are unclear, but the reduced capacity of these grasslands to support rural economies and pastoral societies and provide important ecosystem services is of widespread concern. We seek to evaluate the published studies that report encroachment rates and/or experimentally evaluate mechanisms of woody plant encroachment to elucidate common worldwide patterns.

The student research assistant will search literature databases for appropriate studies and extract and compile the relevant data from each study. There is opportunity for the student to further contribute to the subsequent data analysis and help write the resulting paper.

The position is open immediately, with opportunities to continue through the summer and the Fall 2018 semester. Hours are flexible; the position pays $11/h. Interested persons should contact Dr. Katie Predick (kipredick at arizona.edu<mailto:kipredick at arizona.edu>)
