Subject: Fwd: Vacancy launch - Wild Horse and Burro Specialist, GS-0401-05/07/09/11
Greetings, Mitch! I'm so glad we got to chat at the SRM meeting in Reno. I thought I'd share an interesting job opportunity in the BLM's Ely District (Nevada), Caliente Field Office. I know a few years ago, there was a SNRE student studying wild horse management and perhaps there is another out there looking for an opportunity such as this. My observations of the town of Caliente are that it's small and a bit remote but only about 96 miles from Cedar City, Utah, and 111 miles from St. George. It's scenic with interesting geology and a bit of greenery. The person filling the position could start at the entry level and would be working with the specialists in Ely and Cedar City, who are two very experienced and sharp people. Wild horse and burro specialists in rural Nevada have to be range or wildlife ecologists first and foremost, while experience around rambunctious horses is very helpful but not essential for the daily task of population management and ecology. Thanks for passing this along and I hope a fellow U of A alum turns up among the applications.
