TITLE: Research Specialist Senior

PAY: (starting salary between $50,000-55,000)

Start Date: as early as 01 June 2018

Open until Filled

Job Summary:
Lead efforts to continue long-term vegetation, precipitation and spatial databases monitoring and analyses on the Santa Rita Experimental Range (Santa Rita), and assist with laboratory and field trip activities in rangeland plant communities class. Expect contributions to other activities as needed, and development of independent projects is encouraged.


DUTIES include

  *   Continue long-term vegetation measurements and repeat photography on Santa Rita Experimental Range (Santa Rita).
  *   Maintain long-term vegetation, precipitation and spatial database for Santa Rita.
  *   Perform data analyses of long-term data.
  *   Assist with lab set up, grading and specimen collection for plant communities course.
  *   Assist with field trip driving for plant communities course.
  *   Assist with other projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  *   MS degree and 3 yrs experience; OR BS. and 4 yrs experience.
  *   Skills and accomplishments in plant identification, especially grasses.
  *   Working proficiency with spreadsheet, database, statistical analysis and graphical software.
  *   Working proficiency with Geographic Information System software.
  *   Working proficiency Soil types and Ecological Sites.
  *   Ability to operate a 4-wheel drive vehicle.
  *   Good technical writing ability including scientific publications.
  *   Self-motivated and independent with minimal supervision.
  *   Experience supervising undergraduate assistants.
  *   Experience and accomplishments in working with teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  *   MS degree in Rangeland Ecology and Management, Ecology, Natural Resources, Environmental Science or related field.
  *   License and experience operating unmanned aerial for data collection
  *   Experience processing remote sensing data
  *   Experience with Society for Range Management student organizations at chapter and national levels
  *   Experience and accomplishments working with small-scale livestock grazing and vegetation monitoring in Italian mountain and alpine settings
