Subject: USGS Research Positions for invasive species/biosecurity researcher and bat scientist
To:

Aloha -

I am pleased to announce that the USGS Pacific Island Ecosystems Research Center will be recruiting two scientists to be part of the research team at PIERC. Both positions are excellent opportunities for a bright and creative early-career research scientist to join a group of dedicated USGS ecologists working in Hawaii. The duty station is in or near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Applicants must be US citizens.

The first position is for Permanent GS-11 Research Ecologist to work on biological and physical processes that affect biosecurity and invasive species. The work will require a range of skills including designing field experiments, data analysis, modeling (such risk assessment and/or pathway analysis), and writing reports on study findings. The researcher will focus their skills and experience on invasive species and biosecurity issues facing Hawaii and other US affiliated Pacific Islands. An important part of the job is to provide technical assistance to Federal, State, Territorial, International and Non-Governmental partners relative to biosecurity, invasive species and disease. The vacancy will be open from July 23 until August 6. Here is a link with more details on the position and how to apply:

The second position is for a Term GS-11 Wildlife Biologist to work on the Hawaiian hoary bat. This endangered species is the subject of study by the USGS due to a dearth of ecologic information about the species and potential treats to island populations. PIERC needs a scientist who can engage and coordinate existing projects, plan new projects, analyze and interpret a range of data, and write reports that can be used by managers to make decisions regarding land-use and listing issues The vacancy will be open from July 23 until July 30. Here is a link with more details on the position and how to apply:

Please share this widely with your networks and any qualified applicants you may know ... Gordon
