- Allison

The Tomales Bay Watershed Council is looking for part-time help performing field water quality sampling for a long-term water quality monitoring program in the Tomales Bay watershed. The assistance is needed one day a month (generally the first Tuesday of the month), and on five consecutive Tuesdays in the summer and winter months. The total commitment would be approximately 18 sampling days over the year. The focus area would be seven sampling sites in south and east shore tributaries from Point Reyes Station to Tomales, as well as coordination with samples collected by oyster growers.
Duties would include the collection of water samples from tributary streams and the bay; calibration, use and proper maintenance of hand-held electronic field meters to collect physical and chemical measurements of ambient stream conditions (water temperature, specific conductance & salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH, discharge) in tributary streams; operation of laboratory equipment to analyze water samples for measures of turbidity; coordination with other project field staff and the contract laboratory to ensure proper handling and custody of water samples; data entry of field and laboratory results; coordinating with program manager about needed supplies and equipment and logistical challenges.
The position requires the use of personal transportation, a good attention to detail and record keeping, ability to work safely in all weather conditions and the ability to adapt to sometimes rapidly-changing field conditions. Paid field staff will need to carry their own general liability insurance and enter into a contract with the Tomales Bay Watershed Council Foundation. Compensation range possible from $17-$25/hr dependent on experience.

Thanks!

Rob
