 GS-0462-07 The Lincoln National Forest is currently seeking candidates for 2-Detail opportunities, Forestry Technicians, (Fire Engine Operators) Assistant Engine Captains, GS-0462-07 positions located on the Sacramento Ranger District, Cloudcroft & Mayhill NM duty stations. The purpose of this Outreach Notice is to inform prospective applicants of this upcoming opportunity.  Duties:
 This position serves as the assistant to the supervisor of a Type 3 Fire Engine Module. The Sacramento Ranger District is located within areas of various complexities and typing within the wildland-urban interface and includes high value improvements. Responding to regular and recurring all-hazard incidents involving mutli-jurisdictional response and coordinated efforts. Establishing unified command and working with local volunteer fire departments within I.A. response area. The incumbent is responsible for providing leadership of the crew module during fire suppression, prescribed fire implementation or other fuels ecosystem restoration projects. To qualify at the GS 07 level for an upgraded position, the selectee must meet Interagency Fire Management Program (IFPM) qualifications of Engine Boss and Incident Commander Type 5 and meet time in grade requirements. It would be preferred if the candidate possesses a valid commercial driver's license (CDL), Class B or CDL permit, however this is not a requirement for a detail. This position is a Drug and Alcohol Testing Designated Position under the Department of Transportation/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program. Currency as an ICT5 and Engine Boss will be the only requirements for a detail position, detail to the higher grade position will require candidate to qualify with time in grade requirements. Current GS 6 employees will qualify for this detail opportunity if they currently hold ENGB, ICT5 AREA DESCRIPTION:
 The Lincoln National Forest operates with three districts. The Sacramento Ranger District is located in the Southern Sacramento Mountains of New Mexico, with the District Office located in Cloudcroft, NM. Two additional administrative sites are located in Sacramento and Mayhill. The Supervisor's Office is located in Alamogordo, New Mexico.  The district is extremely diverse, ranging from desert fuel types at 4000-5000 feet to spruce-aspen at 9500 feet. There is approximately 600,000 acres within the district boundary, with about 1/5 being private or other ownership. The Sacramento district fire program consists of 2 type III engines, 2 type VI engines, a full prevention staff, 2 lookout towers and is home of the Sacramento Hotshots. The district averages 30 fires a year and accomplishes approximately 2,000-5,000 acres of prescribed fire (piles and broadcast) a year, in addition to 1,000-3,000 acres of fuels treatments. Lincoln National Forest and Zone resources include additional engines, Home of Smokey Bear Hotshots, Alamogordo tanker base, Pecos Zone Dispatch, BLM, State, B.I.A and the Mescalero Helitack Crew.  COMMUNITY INFORMATION: The Sacramento Ranger District Office is located in Cloudcroft NM (20 miles east of Alamogordo). Alamogordo is a full service community; Las Cruces is an additional 70 miles to the west and El Paso, TX is 70 Miles to the south. Summers are generally warm--70 to 80 degrees at higher elevations, 90-100 degrees in the desert and lower elevations. Other government agencies in the immediate area include the White Sands Missile Range, Holloman Air Force Base, and National Park Service. Alamogordo, Cloudcroft, High Rolls, Mayhill and James Canyon have many subdivisions with housing opportunities within a short commute.  How to Apply:
