Hello All

If you are receiving this email I am requesting your assistance in the PPC surveys required for prescribe burning at Buenos Aries NWR.

I need all the help I can get to have at LEAST 15 people in order to cover the ground, more is better, less will make it difficult to locate the cactus so please pass this message along to anyone that could help!  Please forward on to anyone that may be interested in helping.

We have two units to survey (Airport and Headquarters/Mormon) and will begin with the Airport unit.  I am anticipating two days of surveying.   1 day for each unit.  Each unit will require approximately 6 miles of walking over mild terrain looking for Pima Pineapple Cactus (PPC).

Each belt transect is 100 meters wide and 300 meters apart.  15 or more participants walking in a line, scanning about 21 feet of space in front of them looking for the cactus.  When a cactus is found, the entire line stops and the cactus is processed.  Then we proceed.

Monday May 9th will be day one - Airport Unit.
Meet at the fire cache at 7:00am for a briefing and begin as soon as possible.
The unit is very close so car pooling is a must.
Bring a back pack for enough water and food to finish surveying the entire unit.

We will begin at refuge entrance #1 and traveling north to Bailey Wash #2, jump over to #3 travel south to #4 and so on and so on until complete.

Tuesday May 10 will continue with the same plan for the Headquarters/Mormon units.

More details will be discussed at the morning briefing on Monday.  Please come prepared so we can get a very quick start.
