NOTE:A cover letter describing the applicant’s experience with wildlife and/or natural resource planning, conservation and management, particularly as it relates to the duties described below, should be submitted with the application.   Description of responsibilities and duties:   The Species Conservation Planning Section (SCP) is seeking to fill a position for a statewide conservation coordinator for scrub and sandhill birds, with special focus on Florida Scrub-Jays and Southeastern American Kestrels.  Applicants should demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and team building skills.  The position will be responsible for coordinating scrub-jay and kestrel conservation activities across the agency and with external partners.  Duties include, but are not limited to: working with FWC staff and stakeholders to plan and implement priority conservation actions; coordinating and expanding partnerships for the Southeastern American Kestrel nest cavity program; providing leadership for regional working groups, including organizing and facilitating meetings and workshops; providing guidance for scrub-jay translocations; assisting with the development of guidelines, planning documents, and grant applications; serving as a liaison between researchers, resource managers, and US Fish and Wildlife Service staff for scrub-jay issues; serving as a subject matter expert for the agency, including reviewing and commenting on management plans, grant proposals, permit applications, and other documents; and providing technical assistance to external partners and stakeholders. Duties may shift over time to focus more on sandhill and less on scrub, or vice versa, depending on funding sources and agency priorities.  Responsibilities also may include similar duties for other listed wildlife. Perform various administrative tasks associated with agency operations.  Duties include preparing and reviewing itineraries, travel vouchers, purchasing forms, vehicle operation reports, performance expectations, and other routine administrative reports.
