Subject: Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program at University of Arizona
Dear Dr. McClaran,
The Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program (UF, UI, UA, CU, NCSU), is recruiting 5 students at University of Arizona this spring, to begin the program in June 2014. The goal of this multi-year conservation training program is to broaden participation in conservation by students from diverse backgrounds by training, educating, mentoring, and supporting students who not only have a budding academic interest in conservation, but are also committed to increasing the diversity of students and professionals in the conservation field. Students will complete mentored research projects and internships over the next two summers and receive regular structured mentoring and online learning during the academic year.
Students will earn approximately $5,000 for each of the next 2 summers and will receive an additional $1,000 summer housing stipend. This is a great opportunity for your students to gain the valuable skills and experience that are necessary for a successful career in conservation while also receiving financial support.
Could you please announce this opportunity to your Rangeland Plant Communities class if you think it appropriate, and if you have any students that you think would be a good fit for this program, could you please personally encourage them to apply? They can find more information at http://programs.ifas.ufl.edu<http://programs.ifas.ufl.edu/> or email me at ddcsp at ifas.ufl.edu<mailto:ddcsp at ifas.ufl.edu>. I’m attaching a flyer that you could print and post or distribute as well.
Applications<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/17q5LiS4mk8wRN002BAs0K9b2-hE3Ub0ux45GuhroyuM/viewform> are available now and are due on February 15, 2014. Qualified sophomores will be given preference in our selection process, but freshmen will also be considered.
Thank you for your assistance in spreading the word about our new and exciting program. I look forward to hearing from you or your students.
Dr. Rena Borkhataria
Director and National Coordinator

p.s.- I took this class from you back in 1996 or 1997! It's great to be working with UA again.
